Agartala: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today said that maintaining political, social, and cultural harmony is one of the foremost responsibilities of journalists, as they serve as the mirror of society.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the inauguration of the National Press Day celebration organised by ICA Department held at Sukanta Academy Auditorium, Dr Saha said that accurate news dissemination is an art, and although journalism is a profession, it is best pursued with a sense of duty toward society.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s theme for National Press Day is \u201cSafeguarding Press Credibility Amidst Rising Misinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n
In his speech, the Chief Minister highlighted the crucial role of newspapers and journalists in upholding democracy.<\/p>\n
He said that freedom of speech and expression are the lifeblood of the media, but journalists must remain alert and responsible while reporting any news.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the growing prevalence of misinformation on social media, he stated that all stakeholders must work together to overcome this challenge. Journalists of Tripura are in no way inferior in quality when compared to journalists from other states\u201d, said Dr Saha.<\/p>\n
The Chief Minister urged senior journalists to conduct monthly workshops to help young journalists enhance their skills and strengthen ethical journalism practices.<\/p>\n
Referring to the murder of two journalists in the state in previous years, the Chief Minister assured that continuous efforts are being made to ensure justice for them.<\/p>\n
Dr Saha also affirmed the government\u2019s commitment to ensuring journalists’ safety and dignity, noting that various committees have already been formed by the ICA Department for journalists\u2019 welfare, and their recommendations will be implemented in phases.<\/p>\n
Executive Editor Manas Pal, Editor Shanit Debroy, Agartala Press Club President Pranab Sarkar, ICA Secretary Dr. P. K. Chakraborty, ICA Director Bimbisar Bhattacharjee were present.<\/p>\n
