Agartala, June 15: The Tripura High Court has granted bail to five accused persons in connection with the death of BJP Yuva Morcha leader and municipal councillor Rahul Kishore Roy. The case was heard on June 11 by the bench of Justice Biswajit Palit, and the court subsequently approved the bail applications of the accused.<\/p>\n
According to the complaint filed by Rahul Kishore Roy\u2019s wife, their residence was allegedly attacked twice on May 4, the day of vote counting for the Dharmanagar by-election. She claimed that her husband was unable to cope with the mental trauma caused by the incident and later died by suicide.<\/p>\n
A case was registered against seven individuals in connection with the allegations. During the investigation, police arrested one accused, Kankan Chowdhury, who remains in judicial custody. The remaining accused initially sought bail from the Dharmanagar District Court, but their applications were rejected.<\/p>\n
Subsequently, five of the accused approached the High Court seeking bail. The court granted bail to Manoj Purakayastha, Prabal Kanti Deb, Hirak Jyoti Nath, Saroj Deb, and Abhijit Das.<\/p>\n
Rahul Kishore Roy\u2019s death became one of Tripura\u2019s most widely discussed political incidents in May 2026. On the morning of May 5, his body was recovered from the bathroom of his residence in Dharmanagar. He served as the councillor of Ward No. 5 of the Dharmanagar Municipal Council and was also the Dharmanagar Mandal President of the BJP Yuva Morcha.<\/p>\n
Police sources stated that a saffron party scarf was found tied around his neck at the time of the incident, leading to widespread speculation and questions regarding the circumstances surrounding his death. Family members alleged that he had been threatened and faced attempts of intimidation on the night before the by-election results were announced. They further claimed that political and personal pressures may have contributed to his death.<\/p>\n
