In his first visit to a research centre under the Ministry since assuming charge, Shri Rijiju said with its acquisition India will acquire the weather monitoring mechanism with the highest resolution of probabilistic forecast. The Minister was addressing the media during his visit to the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) in NOIDA, Uttar Pradesh today.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ci3.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/NlL3j6xbN4VZE5eXh_2met_jdKtjhL4GaMwxYLHjely-PRn6YiACJkgcXUmVZughdcWW8B0q0UsF8DIbrFXC_UO3poC6Zey3E0zwGvVqbsrCgciiAsD2jFvhmQ=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image001I4S2.jpg\" data-max-width=\"\" data-width=\"602px\" data-height=\"401px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe new computer can improve forecasting from 12 to 6 kms. Compared to the Cray XC-40 supercomputer \u2018Mihir\u2019 with a performance of 6.8 petaFLOPS (PFLOPS), India\u2019s fastest supercomputer at present, the new supercomputer will have nearly thrice the capability, viz 18 PFLOPS,\u201d said Shri Rijiji. \u201cThe facilities at this world class centre will benefit all sectors, all sections of the society, in fact every individual of the country is going to get the benefit directly from this institution,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ci4.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/Dw_ZuK2Hy2WQfSedviAoLXz4pcxO3lPmP-yCPBR0jKLcTV6Szlue-U7DwbOM5CQNlyMj-3NXXxGFKfhzD3N-LIgKD-Nkp2fPMrdca_nzG27RwOE5rJ8vPW76EQ=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image002W77Y.jpg\" data-max-width=\"\" data-width=\"602px\" data-height=\"401px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Shri Rijiju said India\u2019s weather forecasting capability are improving day by day. \u201cUnder the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi\u2019s leadership, India has made significant advances in the application of Science &amp; Technology. We are also extending weather forecasts to countries in the neighbourhood and beyond,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ci3.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/_Pa5t738_njWu7OQLh6cJaGvvCHJUe9_OMh9GG3HmFnpSQ_h0kJDr7fSTg9vmcfiJvD83DjeMfGKN4CPLKzmwvnmFKZsEUwgWpynMux7wdizqTiqumPdcxbgyQ=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image003FGMY.jpg\" data-max-width=\"\" data-width=\"602px\" data-height=\"401px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The premises of NCMRWF, the Centre of Excellence in Weather and Climate Modelling, also hosts the BIMSTEC Centre on Weather and Climate (BCWC) of the regional grouping \u2018Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation\u2019 (BIMSTEC), comprising seven Member States, &#8211; five from South Asia, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and two from Southeast Asia, including Myanmar and Thailand.<\/p>\n<p>Shri Rijiju said the NCMRWF is a leading institution of its kind in the world. \u201cIt\u2019s a matter of great pride for India that our NCMRWF is going to be the world class centre,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ci5.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/V3AiLIoQtIwH2pbCY1mY2EnCix2HHo3XoixuTD7tWmiVgke3C0MTu3fcmVZuhe-AOOvdKW-m-OWH8Y1o3iJdRQITgAiaw8UaqMJx2vdM3rD3_uJTcAnBYE9Gew=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image0048FDF.jpg\" data-max-width=\"\" data-width=\"602px\" data-height=\"401px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Shri Rijiju was briefed by Dr M.
