Fourth Tourism Working Group of G20 began in Goa with two important side events today. The events were graced by Union Minister for Culture, Tourism and DoNER Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of State for Tourism, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik; Minister of Tourism in Goa Shri Rohan Khaunte; Secretary Tourism Ms V. Vidyavathi graced the occasion.<\/p>\n

The first side event was organised on the theme \u2018Making Cruise Tourism a Model for Sustainable and Responsible Travel\u2019. Addressing the side event on Cruise Tourism Sh G. Kishan Reddy said that Goa is a perfect blend of Sun, Sand and Sea and everyone should experience this beautiful state of India. He said the warmth and fun-loving people of Goa celebrate life with Delightful Music and Delicious food.<\/p>\n

He said that \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 India\u2019s 7,500 Km long coastline makes her a leader\u00a0 in\u00a0 the\u00a0 maritime\u00a0 sector and our rich maritime history is evident\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0from the\u00a0 sphere\u00a0\u00a0of influence that\u00a0India\u2019s civilisation and culture has been able to create\u00a0\u00a0across Asia. It includes kingdom of Champa in today\u2019s Vietnam and also India\u2019s trade with Africa through the port of Mombasa.<\/p>\n

He also said \u00a0that India\u2019s\u00a0 long\u00a0 coast,\u00a0 is not only a key lever, for building trade\u00a0 and\u00a0 growing\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0our exports,\u00a0\u00a0 but\u00a0 also\u00a0 an opportunity\u00a0 to\u00a0 promote\u00a0 tourism and India\u2019s\u00a0 long\u00a0 and\u00a0 scenic\u00a0 coastline\u00a0 provides\u00a0 access to several ports, natural beaches, and beautiful\u00a0 Islands .<\/p>\n

He also highlighted that the cruise passenger traffic grew from 1.26 lakhs in 2015-16 to 4.68 lakhs in 2019-20. He also said that cruise vessel traffic increased from 128 in 2015-16 to 451 in 2019-20.<\/p>\n

He further said that\u00a0\u00a0Indian cruise tourism is like peace\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0far away,\u00a0\u00a0from\u00a0\u00a0the\u00a0\u00a0stress\u00a0\u00a0of\u00a0\u00a0life and experiencing \u00a0life through\u00a0\u00a0natural surroundings.He also said that Indian Cruise Tourism, offers something for everyone in the family. Cruise tourism appeals\u00a0,\u00a0to those looking for multi-generational\u00a0\u00a0travel\u00a0\u00a0options.<\/p>\n

The Union Minister added, \u201cToday 73% of cruise travellers are sailing\u00a0with family members,\u00a0that\u00a0represent at\u00a0least two generations.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also informed that the Ministry of Tourism,\u00a0through\u00a0\u00a0the Central Financial Assistance Scheme has been supporting Tourism\u00a0\u00a0Infrastructure \u00a0Development\u00a0\u00a0for Developing\u00a0\u00a0ports\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0\u00a0cruise Terminals, Development\u00a0\u00a0of\u00a0\u00a0Light-houses, Purchase of\u00a0\u00a0ferries\u00a0, Development\u00a0\u00a0of\u00a0\u00a0river cruise circuits .<\/p>\n

He further said that the Ministry of Ports Shipping and Waterways is also working towards the development of dedicated terminals for cruise passengers and\u00a0cruise vessels.<\/p>\n

Shri G.K Reddy also informed that a \u00a0dedicated task force has been formulated\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0on\u00a0\u00a0Cruise Tourism,\u00a0\u00a0jointly\u00a0\u00a0by\u00a0\u00a0the Ministry of Tourism and\u00a0\u00a0the\u00a0\u00a0Ministry of\u00a0\u00a0Shipping.<\/p>\n

He also said that Waterdromes\u00a0\u00a0at 16 locations are being developed\u00a0\u00a0to\u00a0\u00a0enable\u00a0\u00a0sea-plane operations and \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0are also aiming\u00a0at domestic and international cruise terminal development at selected ports by\u00a0\u00a02023.<\/p>\n

He further said that the central government is\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0working\u00a0\u00a0for\u00a0\u00a0the upgradation and\u00a0\u00a0modernisation of the Ports, rationalisation\u00a0–\u00a0of\u00a0\u00a0port\u00a0\u00a0fees, removing\u00a0\u00a0ousting\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0charges, granting\u00a0\u00a0priority\u00a0\u00a0berthing\u00a0\u00a0to cruise ships, providing e-visa facilities etc,\u00a0to promote Cruise Tourism in India.<\/p>\n

The promotion\u00a0\u00a0of\u00a0\u00a0coastal tourism\u00a0\u00a0through\u00a0Beach\u00a0\u00a0tourism,\u00a0Light-house tourism,\u00a0and Cruise tourism,will help communities\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0such as fishing communities,\u00a0to find other\u00a0livelihood\u00a0\u00a0opportunities,\u00a0\u00a0and supplement\u00a0\u00a0their existing\u00a0\u00a0income , added Shri G Kishan Reddy. The Minister disclosed that GoI has drawn up a programme for developing tourism in the land next to more than 75 light-houses.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted the fact that through\u00a0\u00a0the Namami Ganga Mission, the Government has spent more than 4.3 billion US Dollar which is\u00a0\u00a035,414 crore\u00a0and clean rivers,\u00a0will also ensure potential\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0for tourist\u00a0\u00a0activities\u00a0\u00a0such\u00a0\u00a0as Cruise Tourism.<\/p>\n

On the occasion Shripad Yesso Naik said that the event has shed light on the immense potential \u00a0that cruise tourism has and its achievement across the world. He also added that Goa has something for everyone from backpackers to a luxury traveller. He said that the architecture of Goa is a fusion of captivating Portuguese Bungalows and modern hotels. He also added that Goa is also known for its internationally renowned festivals like Goa Carnival, sunburn festival which attract tourists from across the world. These show the rich cultural tapestry of the state and provide visitor with unforgettable experience. He also added that Cruise tourism holds immense potential not only for \u00a0Goa tourism but for the entire country \u00a0as it provides employment opportunities, add to tax revenue and fostering\u00a0 economic growth.<\/p>\n

At the event , In the presence of\u00a0 Tourism Minister, Shri G Kishan Reddy, Ministry of Tourism \u00a0today signed an MoU with Airbnb to jointly promote heritage homesteads.<\/p>\n

The second side event was organised on the theme \u2018Towards a circular economy of Plastics in Tourism -The global Tourism Plastic initiative\u2019. Addressing the meeting Shri G.K Reddy quoting from Atharva Veda said \u201cThe earth is our Mother and we are her Children\u201d. He also said that Indian philosophy and lifestyle have always been rooted in the concept of coexistence with nature and we belong to a civilisation where sustainability and environment protection is an integral part of our ethos\u201d.<\/p>\n

He further highlighted that over the last nine years, under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi\u2019s leadership, India has emerged as a global leader in supporting sustainable and inclusive growth.<\/p>\n

He also said that sustainability is a key driver of conscious and responsible hospitality and when we talk about Sustainable Tourism,<\/p>\n

People and planet first; Decarbonization of destinations ; Empowering Entrepreneurs should be prioritised.<\/p>\n

He also added that there are approximately 30,000 Yuva Tourism Clubs in India, with membership ranging from fourth-graders to college students and these clubs will promote responsible tourism practices, renew interest in sustainable tourism, re-emphasise the initiatives of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat and Dekho apna Desh.<\/p>\n

Shri G.K Reddy also informed that the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India\u2019s National Strategy for Sustainable Tourism and Swadesh Darshan 2.0 initiative have laid down the guidelines\u00a0 for management of plastic waste in the tourism sector.<\/p>\n

He also urged that G20 countries together should take concrete steps to contribute to reducing plastic with the ethos of \u2018mindful and sustainable consumption.<\/p>\n

At the second side event an MOU was signed between the Central Nodal Agency, Sustainable Tourism, RTSOI and Punjab Tourism Board in the presence of Minister Shri G. Kishan Reddy, to collectively unite\u00a0and address plastic pollution in the tourism sector.<\/p>\n

Panel discussions were also held in each of the side events with sharing of experiences, best practices, suggestions, way forward \u00a0and usefulness of fostering \u00a0partnerships. Special sessions on Gender balance in Cruise tourism, Developing India as a hub of Cruise Tourism and Global perspective on cruise Tourism were organised. On the occasion Goa tourism gave a detailed presentation- Pearl of the Orient, highlighting the unique features of Goa tourism and its potential.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
