Renewable Energy has informed that as against the scheduled generation capacity addition from conventional sources of 51,561.15 MW for the period 2017-22, capacity addition totalling to 30,667.91 MW was achieved as on 31st\u00a0March, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister informed that there were various reasons for slippage of the scheduled energy capacity addition during the period 2017-22, the most important one being the COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0 Apart from the pandemic, other major reasons were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Delay in land acquisitions and forest clearance<\/li>\n<li>Disruption of work due to local issues \/ litigations<\/li>\n<li>Delay in supply by equipment manufacturers<\/li>\n<li>Rise in steel prices delaying material availability at site<\/li>\n<li>Delay due to change in design<\/li>\n<li>Impact of monsoons and unprecedented rains<\/li>\n<li>Inadequate manpower mobilization by contractors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On the steps taken by the Government to address the gap between planned and actual capacity addition from 2017-22 and meet future energy capacity needs, the Minister informed that the Ministry of Power and the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) monitor the progress of under-construction power projects through frequent site visits and interaction with the developers and other stakeholders, to identify and resolve issues which are critical for commissioning of projects.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister further informed that as per\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleaseIframePage.aspx?PRID=1928750\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleaseIframePage.aspx?PRID%3D1928750&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1691071927987000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0YSWd8OwKCeH_uZ282UpAl\">National Electricity Plan (NEP) notified in May 2023<\/a>\u00a0(20th\u00a0Electric Power Survey), following projections have been made to meet future energy capacity needs:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table class=\"zoom-out\" border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"5\" align=\"center\" data-zoom=\"1\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"\">Type of Capacity<\/td>\n<td class=\"\">2026-2027<\/p>\n<p>Projected Peak demand &#8211;
