Agartala, sunday :Ashish Kumar Saha, President of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee, strongly criticized the campaign by the Bharatiya Janata Party over the Women’s Reservation Bill.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan in Agartala on Sunday, he said the Indian National Congress has never opposed the Women’s Reservation Bill. He stated that if the bill is implemented without delimitation and without increasing the number of seats, the Congress will support it.
Saha also condemned the remarks made by BJP members about Indira Gandhi in the Tripura Legislative Assembly and the discussion surrounding the bill. He alleged that after opposition parties were defeated by voice vote over the initiative of the Narendra Modi government to pass the bill by linking it with delimitation based on the census, the BJP has started a campaign against Congress and other opposition parties.
He added that the Congress will launch a statewide campaign in protest. Several presidents of different frontal organizations of the party were also present at the press conference.
