Sindoor Khela Held at Lakshminarayan Bari on the Occasion of Ambubachi

Agartala, June 23: The observance of Ambubachi 2026 began on June 22 (7 Asharh, Monday) and will conclude on June 26 (11 Asharh, Friday). Traditionally, Ambubachi is observed from the seventh to the tenth day of the waxing phase of the moon in the month of Asharh. Across different parts of India, the festival is also known as Ambubachi, Ambabati, or Raja Parba.

On Monday, a special festive atmosphere was witnessed at the Lakshminarayan Bari in Agartala, where women enthusiastically participated in Sindoor Khela. During the event, married women applied vermilion (sindoor) to one another and prayed for the long life, good health, and well-being of their husbands. It is believed that sindoor applied during this auspicious period remains blessed and brings happiness, prosperity, and harmony to married life.

According to Hindu scriptures and traditional beliefs, the Earth is revered as Mother Earth (Dharitri Mata). It is believed that during the month of Asharh, Mother Earth undergoes her annual menstrual cycle, and Ambubachi is observed to mark this sacred period. Just as a woman prepares for motherhood during her reproductive cycle, the Earth is believed to become fertile and ready to yield abundant crops after Ambubachi.

During these days, devotees observe various religious rituals and customs. It is customary to refrain from auspicious ceremonies such as marriages, housewarming functions, and other religious celebrations. Agricultural activities are also temporarily suspended and resumed after the observance concludes.

A large number of devotees gathered at Lakshminarayan Bari to take part in the religious ceremonies. Along with traditional worship and rituals, the vibrant Sindoor Khela added a festive spirit to the occasion, making the temple premises lively and colorful.
