SUCI(C) Submits Memorandum Demanding Infrastructure Upgrade at GBP Hospital Amid Surge in Patient Load

Agartala, July 2: SUCI(C) has alleged that the patient load at GB Pant (GBP) Hospital has increased abnormally following the government’s decision to prohibit private practice by doctors serving at the Government Medical College and GBP Hospital. The party claimed that the decision was implemented without strengthening the hospital’s infrastructure, causing severe inconvenience to patients.According to the party, patients are facing long queues for registration, medical consultations, and diagnostic tests. With the existing number of ticket counters and OPDs insufficient to handle the growing number of patients, many are reportedly being forced to return home without receiving treatment. SUCI(C) also alleged that basic facilities such as seating arrangements, fans, drinking water, and toilets are inadequate for the current patient volume. The party further stated that although doctors’ private chambers have been closed, patients are still unable to receive timely treatment at the hospital, leading to widespread dissatisfaction and concern among the public. In view of the situation, SUCI(C) submitted a memorandum to the concerned authorities demanding urgent measures to ensure treatment for all patients at GBP Hospital, the state’s only referral hospital. The memorandum demands immediate steps to ensure treatment for every patient, rapid expansion of hospital infrastructure to cope with the increased patient load, an increase in the number of OPDs in every department, strengthened emergency services for critically ill patients, round-the-clock availability of specialist doctors, additional ticket counters along with offline registration facilities, expansion of diagnostic services including X-ray, ultrasonography and blood tests, and adequate seating arrangements, fans, and safe drinking water for patients and their attendants.
