Over 55,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup worth Rs 6.54 crore seized from rail parcel wagon at Agartala railway station. one detained

 

Agartala, Thursday: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized more than 55,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup, valued at around Rs 6.54 crore, from a rail parcel wagon at Agartala railway station. One person has been detained in connection with the operation.

According to officials, the DRI’s Agartala regional unit intercepted the consignment after receiving specific intelligence about it. The railway parcel wagon (VPH No. NR 094527) had been dispatched from Katihar to Agartala as a general goods consignment under Parcel Way Bill No. 198284 dated June 25, 2026. It arrived in Agartala on June 30 and was later placed on Line No. 13 for unloading.

On July 1, officials from the DRI, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF), Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB), Assam Rifles and railway authorities carried out a joint inspection, during which the large stock of cough syrup was recovered.

Officials said further investigation is underway to trace the source of the consignment and its intended recipients.
