Recently two people underwent successful heart surgery at GB Hospital. A 42-year-old woman resident of Dharmanagar was suffering from heart valve problem for a long time. Earlier he had one valve balloon surgery in Chennai But even then he did not suffer. Pain and shortness of breath were increasing day by day. Finally he came to GB Hospital. CTVS and IR department came there for consultation. After the tests, it was found that the mitral valve of his heart is in very bad shape and it needs to be replaced soon. A 12-member team led by cardiac surgeon Dr. Konkanarayan Bhattacharya of AGMC and GBP Hospitals performed an emergency heart valve replacement on August 28 through open heart surgery. Suffered from pain and admitted to GB Hospital with heart attack. An angiogram revealed blockages in three of his coronary arteries. A family below the poverty line could not afford bypass surgery. The family members sought the help of the Chief Minister and the Health Secretary. Arrangements were made to purchase his operation materials with the help of the hospital superintendent as per the authority’s instructions. On September 2, the same cardiac surgery team successfully completed multivessel coronary bypass surgery on the patient. The patient is now very stable and is slowly recovering. Apart from Dr. Bhattacharya, Cardiac Anesthesiologist Dr. Manimoy Devavarma, Physician Assistant Sudipta Mondal, Perfusionist Sujan Sach, ICU team including Technicians Ratan Mondal, Jaydeep Chakraborty, Amrit Murasingh were present in this operation. The patient and the family members are very happy and expressed their gratitude to the doctors, medical staff and officials concerned as the woman recovered from the successful heart operation.
It should be noted that a total of 45 cardiovascular operations including 22 super major open heart and bypass surgeries have been completed in the cardiac surgery department of GB Hospital so far. Also about 6500 cath lab procedures have been done successfully. The director of the health department informed this news in a press release.
