The government has taken up new schemes to make the state self-sufficient in fisheries. New reservoirs are being dug to expand the fishery area. Modern technology is being used in fisheries to increase production. Fisheries Minister Premkumar Riang said this while inaugurating the state-wide World Fisheries Day celebrations at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel today. On the occasion, the Fisheries Minister said that the cage culture tank has been constructed to improve the socio-economic status of the people living in the vicinity of Dambur reservoir. 1 tank can produce about 1000 kg of fish per year. Tripura’s best hatchery fish farmer Madhusudhan Bhattacharya was felicitated in Daman and Diu today on World Fisheries Day. It is the pride of the state. He said that per capita fish production in the state is 1946 kilograms. The state government and fisheries department have taken multi-pronged programs to meet the remaining deficit. He said that 26 crore rupees have been received from NABARD for fish production by biofloc method. It is currently in progress. He said that the state government is trying to advance those who are backward in the society. The Fisheries Minister said that recently the State’s projects were highlighted at the National Fish Conference in New Delhi. Union Fisheries Minister Parashottam Rupala has sanctioned Tk 10 crore for the development of fisheries and reservoir infrastructure in the state.
In the president’s speech, MLA Dr. Dilip Kumar Das said, Nature has given us a lot. The king’s government will build bigger reservoirs to meet the shortage of fish. Speaking as a special guest, Chief Secretary of Fisheries Department BS Mishra said that the state has a favorable environment for fish farming. The weather, land and natural environment here are suitable for fish farming. 600 crore worth of fish has to be imported from outside the state every year. The Department of Fisheries has taken various schemes to ensure that this money does not go outside the state. In the speech of the special guest, Deputy General Manager of NABARD Anil Purohit said, NABARD is always on the side of fishermen.
Director of Fisheries Department Moslemuddin Ahmed welcomed everyone and said that such event will be held in 8 districts of the state. He outlined the State Plan and CSS project of the Department of Fisheries for the financial years 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22. Fishermen Lalchan Sarkar, Rajkumar Dey, Lob Telenga and others also spoke. On the occasion, the minister felicitated Krishna Devabarma, the second runner-up of the Sipahijala district, with a memento. Apart from this, 23 fishermen were felicitated by the department.
