Social Welfare and Social Education Department Minister Santbana Chakma today released a booklet containing information about the achievements of the current government. In a press conference held at the secretariat’s press conference hall, he officially released two booklets in Bengali and English and presented some statistics of developmental success. Ms. Chakma said that the department has implemented many programs during the current government. Several new projects have also been launched. He said that provision of nutritious food has been made through Poshan Abhiyan. Smartphones are provided to supervisors and workers for easy implementation of office plans. Two eggs, gram, chana, khichuri are being provided every week in the supplementary nutrition program for children enrolled in Anganwadi centers. Besides, special food is being provided for severely malnourished children. A new scheme has been launched for expectant mothers called Chief Minister Majupushti Gift. Beneficiaries in this scheme are getting Rs 2,000 directly. Referring to the programs undertaken by the government for the welfare of elderly and women citizens, Mrs. Chakma said, earlier a one stop center for women was functioning in the state, currently it is functioning in 8 districts. Mobile helpline number 181 has been launched. 33 percent reservation for women in employment and 50 percent in distribution of government market stalls has been introduced. He said that a new policy called Tripura State Policy for Empowerment of Women 2022 has been launched. So far 1 lakh 993 pregnant women are getting financial assistance of Rs 5,000 in 3 installments under Pradhan Mantri Mattu Bandana Yojana. Social Welfare Minister Mrs. Chakma said that the state government has increased the social allowance by Rs. 2 thousand as promised. Allowance will be given to 30,000 new people. Honorary allowance of 2000 taka is being given from 2021 for social workers of Janjati community. He said that 14567 helpline number has been launched for the services of senior citizens. A 50-bed nursing halfway house has been opened to house recovering mental patients. Minister Chakma said that there are many projects in the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education to help the disabled.
He said that photo identity cards are being given to the disabled. 4 percent reservation has been introduced for Divyangjans in recruitment and promotion in government jobs since 2019. Besides, Chief Minister Merit Award has been introduced for students with disabilities. With the aim of creating a drug free Tripura, the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education has launched various welfare rehabilitation projects in coordination with other departments. 4 Working Women’s Hostels are being set up so that working women do not face difficulties at work. Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao program has been launched in 8 districts of Tripura. Earlier this project was running in only 1 district. Also the allowances of Anganwadi workers and helpers have been increased at various times.
