Promising to bring back development in the state after five years of misgovernance, AITC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Friday said that voting for Trinamool candidates would mean choosing the pro-people form of governance endorsed by AITC chairperson Mamata Banerjee. On Friday, hundreds of people gathered to listen to the party’s National General Secretary at the Kamalpur and Kadamtala-Kurti Assembly constituencies.
While addressing a gathering in Kamalpur, AITC National General Secretary said, “You can rely on Trinamool Congress as we will not compromise in any aspect. Casting a vote for [candidate] Suman Dey means voting for Mamata Banerjee and her Maa Maati Maanush governance. Six more days are left for the elections. Ask and verify about the developments in Bengal from your family and friends who are staying there and then cast your vote.”
The AITC National General Secretary also tore into the BJP government for taking back Tripura’s development by years. “According to NCRB reports, Tripura is the most violent state among the other Northeast states. BJP ruined the state in all aspects in these five years more than CPI(M) did in 25 years,” he said, elaborating how there are no doctors in the hospitals or jobs for youth.
“BJP promised the people jobs through missed calls. However, there is no doctor in the hospitals, and the youth do not have jobs. From the economy to law enforcement to the education system, Tripura has been pushed on the back foot,” he said amid thundering cheers.
Tracing the difficult journey of Trinamool Congress in Tripura, Abhishek Banerjee added, “In 2021, TMC started its journey in Tripura. Many party workers were attacked, cars were set to fire, and the properties of the media houses were also not spared.”
Addressing the brazen display of politics of disruption, he added, “The venue of my meeting had changed at the last moment. Miscreants warned the owner not to provide the venue for today’s public meeting. BJP is afraid of Trinamool Congress because we are the only party that is fighting against all the evil forces. We didn’t bow down to ED, CBI, or any other Central agency.”
The AITC National General Secretary also said that the Agartala airport “is not made for the normal people” but instead to facilitate “high profile visits by BJP leaders in Tripura.”
Along with highlighting the transgressions of the previous regimes, Abhishek Banerjee also spoke
of the party’s vision for the state. “We released our manifesto a week ago. We have fulfilled every promise in West Bengal. Lakshmir Bhandar scheme was implemented within a month after the government was formed in West Bengal. We will also fulfill all the promises in Tripura,” he said. Explaining West Bengal’s Student Credit Card scheme he said, “Similar schemes will be brought in Tripura along with other initiatives such as Kanyashree and Rupashree. Unemployed youth will get Rs 1,000 every month and the 10,323 teachers, who lost their jobs, will also be able to avail the benefits of this scheme till their issue is resolved.”
While addressing another public meeting at the Kadamtala-Kurti Assembly constituency, the AITC National General Secretary spoke about the culture of violence in the state. “When I became the National General Secretary of the party, I came to Agartala. But they tried to kill me. I came out of the airport and was going to Maa Tripureshwari to seek blessings for everyone. But they attacked my car in the middle of the road. People here have seen many such instances of vandalism including the attack on our parliamentarian Sushmita Dev,” he said. “Tripura has all political parties like the CPI(M), Congress, Tipra Motha and others. But ever since TMC has set foot in Tripura, they are scared. This is because we are not like other political parties, which are seen only during elections as they do not care about people once the polls are over. We are here for the people with the little power we have. I have visited here several times and our party workers have stayed on the roads to protest against the government’s administrative failure,” Abhishek Banerjee said.
Expressing confidence and hope, the party National General Secretary asserted that the people of Tripura will shower their support on the progressive welfare schemes put forward by the Trinamool Congress. “On March 2, we will see the results of this election and before April 2, over 6.50 lakh women in the state will receive the same benefits as the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme.”
