Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitye visited the media center of Umakanta Academy’s counting center today. During the visit, he was accompanied by West Tripura District District Election Officer and District Magistrate Debapriya Vardhan, 8-Town Baradwali Assembly Constituency Returning Officer Arup Dev, Additional Superintendent of Police Rajdeep Dev, Sadar SDPO Ajay Das and others. The counting center in the new building of Umakanta Academy will count the votes of assembly constituencies 1 to 5, 9 to 11 and 13. The counting center in the old building of Umakanta Academy will be used to count the votes of assembly constituencies 6 to 8, 14 and 18. These two counting centers are for journalists. There will be two media centers. Besides, Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Geeto and other officials today also visited the counting center of 18- Suryamaninagar Assembly Constituency in the old building.
Speaking to reporters after the visit, Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitya said that the counting of votes in the 60 assembly constituencies of the state will be done in 21 centers on March2, from 8 am. He said that the journalists will have the facility of gathering news in a specific room inside the counting center. He said that the counting center has a three-level security ring. A total of 14 counting halls have been constructed in these two buildings. He said, there will be one micro observer on all the counting tables. VVPAT will be counted for 5 polling stations in each assembly constituency. These 5 polling stations will be determined through lottery. The Chief Electoral Officer said that 60 assembly constituencies will be counted in an average of 5 rounds. Postal ballots will be counted first from 8 am on March 2 counting day. EVM counting will start after the postal ballot counting is over.
