Public awareness needs to be created to popularize generic medicines in the state. Government is conscious of maintaining the quality of generic medicines or other medical devices in public medicine centres. This was said by the Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha while inaugurating the celebration of Jan Yahodhi Divas-2023 organized at the community hall adjacent to Rishi Aurobindo Health and Wellness Center in Aruddhatinagar, Agartala today. He said there are 20 medical centers in the state. Common people are benefited by the availability of affordable generic medicines as well as various medical equipments at these centres. The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is constantly working for the welfare of the common people and to alleviate the problems. Celebration of John Medicinal Day is a sign of that. The Chief Minister wished the future growth of Rishi Aurobindo Health and Wellness Centre. The Chief Minister emphasized on keeping sufficient quantity of medicines in the public medicine centers besides bringing to the notice of nearby medical colleges, medical centers or private doctors the new generic medicines to be supplied. On the occasion, the Chief Minister laid emphasis on organizing workshops to increase public awareness about the use of generic medicines.
Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Department Dr. Debashish Basu said, along with other parts of India, the state is also celebrating Jan Yahodhi Divas. The day will be celebrated for a week from March 7 through various awareness programs. He said that the development of health sector in the state is the priority area of the government. The government has given special importance to the development of health infrastructure. He pointed out that the government is making efforts to provide better health services to the economically weaker and backward people.
