Three children drowned while bathing in Khowai river. The names of the three deceased children are Ankush Nam (7), father Bapi Nam of the house in Bishalgarh Lakshmi Bill area, Mautusi Das (12), father Mahaprabhu Das of the house in Mohar Chora area. Khushi Roy (9) father Ranjit Roy house in Paschim Ganki area. The incident took place at approximately 11 am. Paharmura area located in Khowai West Ganki Village Panchayat. On this day, four children went to bathe in Khowai river with grandfather Subal Dey (50). They came to attend a social function at grandfather’s house in Khowai Paschimgan area. On this day, four children went into the Khowai river pretending to play with their grandfather. Suddenly, three children drowned in the Khowai river while playing. One of them was rescued alive by his grandfather Subal Dey. Later, after searching for about two hours, three dead bodies were recovered and brought to Khowai District Hospital with the efforts of the Khowai Disaster Management Office and the residents of the local area. Doctors of Khowai District Hospital declared the three children dead as soon as they brought them to the hospital. The second officer of Khowai police station, Jugal Tripura, said that the three dead children will be handed over to their families after the post-mortem. Khowai Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vijay Sinha, Khowai Police Station OC Rajkumar Jamatia, Second Officer Jugal Tripura rushed to the spot after receiving the news of this incident. Khowai Zilla Parishad member- Sabrat Majumdar along with others West Koni Gram Panchayat Pradhan Animesh Nag. Hundreds of people gathered to witness this event. For a while, the flow of traffic to Agartala came to a standstill. There is a shadow of intense mourning in the whole area around the incident. State Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed deep grief over the tragic incident.
