Protest program of SUCI against multiple issues, including rape of women.

Agartala, Wednesday: A protest meeting was organized on Wednesday in front of City Centre in Agartala by the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) (SUCI) condemning the rising incidents of rape and gang rape across the country.

Speakers at the protest alleged that crimes against women are increasing, with many victims being trapped through deception, blackmail, or force. Referring to a recent tragic incident in Rajasthan, they said a young woman was allegedly gang-raped for nearly four years after being blackmailed with an intimate video. Unable to bear the trauma, she eventually died by suicide. Her younger sister later identified the accused and approached the police, but reportedly faced harassment from the perpetrators and also died by suicide.

During the demonstration, the protesters demanded strict punishment for the accused as well as action against administrative officials responsible for negligence. They also questioned the effectiveness of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The organization further demanded stronger government measures to ensure women’s safety, strict punishment for those involved in recent rape cases in Dhalai district and other areas of Tripura, a ban on obscene content on the internet and social media, stronger action against drug abuse, and strict steps to prevent human trafficking.
