Agartala, June 8: The court has ruled in favour of the government in a case related to land acquisition for the Agartala–Bishalgarh road project.
According to government advocate Madhumita Choudhury, the government had acquired certain plots of land in 1958 after paying compensation for the construction of the Agartala–Bishalgarh road. Later, during the construction of a flyover, portions of several shops at Manihar Market were demolished, prompting affected traders to approach the court seeking compensation.
Speaking on Monday, the government counsel stated that after examining the case records and documents related to the earlier land acquisition, the court found that compensation for the concerned land had already been paid in 1958. Therefore, the fresh claim for compensation was not legally sustainable.
The court subsequently dismissed the case, observing that the landowners had already been compensated during the original acquisition process. According to the government advocate, the verdict has upheld the government’s position in the matter.
