Agartala, June 8: The Sadar District Congress staged a protest in front of the Electricity Department headquarters on Monday, alleging abnormal hikes in electricity tariffs, poor power services, corruption in the department, and demanding the cancellation of smart meters. To this demand, they organized a protest march in Agartala city and gathered in front of the” Vidyuth Bhavan” to demonstrate.Congress workers and supporters called for the withdrawal of increased electricity bills and voiced strong opposition to what they described as an additional financial burden on common people. The protesters also demanded immediate measures to improve the quality of electricity services and safeguard public interests.
Addressing the gathering, Sadar District Congress President Tanmoy Roy alleged that the BJP is no longer focused on solving people’s problems and is instead concentrating on strengthening its own interests and assets. He further claimed that corruption in higher education, including issues surrounding NEET, has put students’ futures at risk, while rising electricity and other utility bills have placed parents under severe financial pressure.
Roy asserted that the increased electricity charges are unacceptable and urged not only opposition parties but also the general public to unite and raise their voices against what he termed an unjust decision.
