Agartala, June 9: Minister for Animal Resource Development, Fisheries and Scheduled Caste Welfare, Sudhangshu Das, on Tuesday inaugurated the Liquid Nitrogen Plant along with its Plant Building and Office at R.K. Nagar. The facility has been established by the Tripura Livestock Development Agency under the Animal Resource Development Department of the Tripura Government.
Among those present as guests of honour were Ratan Chakraborty, MLA of Khayerpur Assembly Constituency; Swapna Debbarma, MLA of Mandai Bazar Assembly Constituency; Biswajit Shil, Sabhadhipati of West Tripura Zilla Parishad; and Deepa D. Nair, Secretary of the Animal Resource Development Department, along with other dignitaries.
Liquid nitrogen plays a crucial role in improving the quality and effectiveness of artificial insemination services for livestock development. An uninterrupted supply of liquid nitrogen is essential for the preservation of high-quality frozen semen and for ensuring timely artificial insemination services at the grassroots level. With the expansion of artificial insemination programmes for cattle across the state, the demand for frozen semen has increased significantly.
To ensure a continuous supply of liquid nitrogen, the newly established production centre and adjoining office building were inaugurated at Radhakishore Nagar. Addressing the gathering, Minister Sudhangshu Das highlighted the important role of the Animal Resource Development Department in securing rural livelihoods. He emphasized the need to promote modern livestock management technologies to strengthen the rural economy, increase farmers’ income, and advance the dairy sector towards industrial growth.
The Minister expressed confidence that the commissioning of the liquid nitrogen production centre would further strengthen the state’s cattle artificial insemination programme and contribute significantly to livestock development and increased milk production.
At present, around 280 doorstep artificial insemination workers are engaged across the state, providing services directly to livestock owners. In the second phase of the programme, selected mobile artificial insemination workers under the Government of India’s “Maitri” project were provided with essential equipment required for artificial insemination services.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Ratan Chakraborty and MLA Swapna Debbarma praised the state government’s efforts towards overall development and livestock advancement in Tripura. The programme was presided over by West Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Biswajit Shil.
