Agartala, June 16: Protesting the public inconvenience caused by ongoing road construction and renovation works under the Agartala Smart City Project, the East Agartala Regional Committee of the Communist Party of India CPIM submitted a memorandum to the Chief Executive Officer of Agartala Smart City Limited on Tuesday.
The memorandum stated that prolonged road construction and repair activities under the Smart City Project have resulted in dangerous potholes and deep excavations on several roads across the city. Due to the lack of coordination and delays in completing the works, commuters, students, workers, and pedestrians are facing severe difficulties on a daily basis. Furthermore, heavy traffic congestion in various parts of the city is preventing people from reaching their workplaces, educational institutions, and other destinations on time.
To address the situation and restore normal civic life, the CPI(M) East Agartala Regional Committee put forward a six-point charter of demands.
The demands include the immediate completion of unfinished Smart City Project works, urgent filling and repair of deep trenches and potholes dug in the middle of roads, levelling of connecting lanes adjoining major roads to ensure safe movement, installation of barricades, reflective signboards, and temporary lighting at construction sites to prevent accidents, regular water spraying to control dust pollution, and ensuring that ongoing construction activities do not obstruct the existing underground drainage system.
The CPI(M) leadership expressed hope that the concerned authorities would take prompt action to address these issues and bring an end to the prolonged suffering of the city’s residents.
