AMC demolished the illegal shops of the traders who had been doing business illegally for a long time by illegally occupying the government premises near Battala area. For the last few days there was miking by the AMC to voluntarily evacuate the shops of the illegal squatters. But the illegal occupiers ignored the government directives. AMC today bulldozed all the shops along with the police. Besides, those who were illegally selling domestic and foreign liquor inside the market demolished the shops. The mayor said that this campaign will continue everywhere in the city. On the other hand, Leader of Opposition Manik Sarkar said that the city is being turned into ruins in the name of smart city. He stood beside the illegal occupying traders and said where will they go now. Meanwhile, in a press conference held by the Battala Refugee Bazar Central Association this afternoon, the Pur Nigam’s operation has been termed as unethical. According to them, what AMC has done is inhumane. The market committee also decided to close the Battala market tomorrow in protest. According to the residents, some people were illegally occupying the footpath for a long time and running a double business.
